Why downloads fail

Not every link can be saved. When VidLoad cannot list formats, the cause is almost always an access rule or a platform limit — not a silent bug on your phone or laptop. Use this page as a checklist before you paste the same URL ten times.
The fastest first test: open the link in a private window while logged out of TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Vimeo, VK Video, or the original site. If that page will not play the video there, we will not fetch it either. Our servers are guests. They do not sign in as you.
Private or restricted posts
Friends-only Instagram, protected X accounts, unlisted videos that still require a login, and “follow to view” posts all fail here. Worked example: you can watch a classmate’s Instagram Reel because you follow them, but a private window shows a login wall. VidLoad sees the same wall. Ask the owner for a public page, or do not use this tool for that file.
Age gates and login walls
Age-restricted, members-only streams, and any page that only plays after you accept a platform gate are out of scope. We do not pass those gates, even if the same video plays in an app where you are already signed in. That is a product limit, not a broken paste box.
Geo-blocking
A talk can be public in one country and blocked where the request runs. If the private-window check works on your phone at home but fails from our servers, region rules are the usual reason. We will not pretend to be in another country to bypass that.
Temporary rate limits
Platforms throttle guests who ask for too many pages in a short window. Rapid retries make this worse. If the product mentions a temporary block, wait several minutes and try once. Do not hammer the same URL.
Missing formats, live, or DRM
Live broadcasts, rentals, and DRM-protected streams are not a downloadable guest file. Some public pages only expose a single low-quality progressive file; others expose none to logged-out visitors. If HD is missing, try a different public video from the same site. If that second link works, this particular upload never offered the file you wanted to a guest.
Daily caps
Guests share a lower daily cap so the machines stay up. Signed-in free accounts get a higher cap. When you hit the limit, the product says so — that is not a failed URL. Sign in or wait for the reset. Settings and history pages do not carry ads.
Broken or incomplete URLs
Share sheets sometimes copy a sentence (“check this out”) with no real address, or they truncate a query string. Always copy the full address bar from a regular browser tab. A truncated watch URL with half an id will not resolve. In-app “copy link” is fine when it produces a real https URL.
What to try, in order
- Confirm the link opens in a private window without logging in.
- Copy the canonical page URL from the address bar — not a marketing snippet.
- Wait a few minutes if the error mentions a temporary block.
- Check supported platforms and whether you hit a daily cap.
- After you click a quality, look at the browser download shelf, Downloads folder, or Files app — not the original video app.
- Use the contact form (Support) if a clearly public link fails the same way twice with no useful error.
