Why a public-looking video still fails
Written by FolkCraft Studio · Published August 17, 2026
Private posts, geo blocks, rate limits, and missing formats — the failures we actually see, in ordinary language.
If you can watch it, why can’t we?
Your phone is logged in. Our servers are not. That single fact explains most “it works for me” reports. Open the same URL in a private window, logged out. If the site asks you to sign in, follow, or confirm your age, VidLoad will usually fail too.
The usual causes
- Private or protected accounts — friends-only, subscribers, close-friends stories.
- Age or login walls — the host will not hand media to a guest session.
- Geo rules — the upload is allowed in your country and blocked where the request runs.
- Temporary blocks — platforms throttle automated lookups. Waiting beats hammering retry.
- Live or DRM — a live broadcast or a protected stream is not a downloadable file.
- A broken copy-paste — truncated links, extra share text, or an app deep link that is not a web URL.
- Daily cap — guests have a lower allowance than signed-in users. The product says so when that is the reason.
What to try, in order
- Incognito, logged out, same URL.
- Copy from the desktop address bar, not from a share card.
- Confirm the host is on supported platforms.
- Wait a few minutes if the error mentioned a temporary block.
- Sign in if the UI says you hit the guest cap.
If a clearly public link still dies with a vague error, use the contact form. Tell us the platform and what you saw. Do not send the private video or an account password.
The longer checklist is in the troubleshooting guide.
